Sushi was good. Ambiance was laid back and the chef was funny.
I have not really experienced traditional omakase but if this is it, I'm gonna be an addict. incredible food. each dish carefully curated. fish was incredibly fresh tasting. perfect compliments of rice and miso. speaking of miso, best miso soup ever...I know that's strange but it's true. three chefs each taking care of a couple customer sets. servers for dishes and sale were so attentive. the littlest spill gets picked up without notice. worth every penny.
Hands down one of the best omakase in East village. Fresh ingredient, thoughtful service, amazing craft. Simple yet memorable dining experience.
You would walk right past this place if you didn’t know what to spot. Tucked away on the less busy part of St. Marks Place you’ll find a very delicious and delicately crafted several tier omakase experience where the service is amazing, the sake recommendations are plentiful, and the ingredients are high quality. Best of all, the sushi rice is done right. Highly recommend a visit though it’s on the pricier side as a forewarning especially if you elect the premium tier - $180 - but worth every dollar. The only downside is that the food came out too fast.
My party and I enjoyed the omakase. Attention to detail seemed respectable. Unpretentious, yet great atmosphere. Timely service between pieces. If I could afford this regularly, I'd certainly frequent them more.
Superb experience.High quality food.Exceptional service. It's expensive, but what else can you expect from a high quality omakase?Highly recommend.Make sure you look hard when you are finding this place so you don't miss it. The entrance is pretty small.
I've never had omakase before, but I'm glad my first experience was at Kura. I went with 16 pieces and the sake flight. Each dish was unique and excellent, and the freshness of each piece was undeniable. The fatty tuna and salmon literally dissolves in your mouth. The service was also thoughtful and attentive. This was probably the best sushi I've ever had. I wish I could've taken the time to take better/more pictures without feeling so uncultured. Can't wait to come back for the 20 piece.
Super authentic omakase style sushi. Felt just like dining in Japan. They serve food too fast.
Amazing sushi created by masters in an intimate setting with very attentive service. Great sake menu as well.
Way too expensive for product delivered. $70 meal was worth $25 at most.
Amazing food, great service - most definitely, the best sushi I ever experienced in my life
Best sushi I have ever experienced in my life... the fish was very fresh and prepared in front of us which makes the experience even more memorable. Simply amazing!
This place made every other sushi restaurant seem mediocre. Incredible experience with a private chef making each piece specially for you, in front of you. On top of the chef-picked menu, they serve you starters, soups, desert and tea. Everything with the best ingredients and quality you could imagine. Prepare yourself for not wanting sushi from elsewhere after trying this place. Enjoy!
Fresh omakase! They even took a Polaroid of our table for my moms birthday!
Very fresh and high quality omakase experience! I would definitely recommend this place for all sushi purists. My friend and I did the 20 course tasting menu. It was amazing!!! You need to come with a lot of stomach space for this and some stretchy pants. I made a mistake by wearing high waisted jeans. I felt super full and bloated by the end that I could barely move but every piece was worth it. Service was good and attentive. My water glass was never empty. Kura definitely lived up to its reputation.
Very nice experience. had the 16 piece omakase, and everything was delicious
Decent sushi, nothing surprise but expensive.
Excellent omakase for a decent price!!!!
Brought sister to experience omakase because she loves sushi. We did the 16pcs omakase for $125 and we ordered a side dish of shrimp and veggie tempura. We love each one of the omakase made fresh in front of us and everything else we ordered and their included side dishes. The staff were very attentive in refilling our tea. Love my always ready hot tea on the table. The place was very intimate and small, only seated 11 people. I made a reservation for 6pm while the place opened @530pm, we were the second group customer. This place was recommended by my friends and I would definitely go back again. I also recommend trying this place for it's omakase, the freshness of their sushi.
Amazing sushi prepared masterfully by the chef. Cozy, intimate setting. The chef isnt as warm or entertaining as some out there, but his skill speaks for itself. Highlights include fresh and saltwater eel, melt in your mouth mackerel, two different cuts of giant clam, and abalone that was so naturally sweet and crisp it almost tasted candied.
What a wonderful sushi experience! Every piece was so delightful that I couldn’t wait to try the next piece. The ambiance and food preparation was one of the best sushi experiences I have ever had in the city. I highly recommend!
Delicious Omakase, courteous staff, reasonable prices. The fish was high quality and incredibly tasty. The chefs preparations ranged from classic and simple to sophisticated and interesting. The staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The prices were a good deal for the quality of the experience. I paid $125 for 16 piece Omakase, plus they serve appetizers, soup, and dessert. Highly recommend Kura - I will be coming back for seconds!
Very traditional and authentic Omakase style sushi. You basically choice only how many pieces you want, 12, 16, 20, or 20+ and the chef makes whatever he prepared for that day on his menu. I got the 20 piece and my wife got the 16 piece, it was more than enough for both of us, I probably would have been happy with the 12 piece, as they also give you a little dessert, soup and 2 appetizers. High quality service, my water never went below half and the wait staff to customer ratio is very low, why you get such amazing service. Very authentic experience!
You can choose the amount of pieces you want so you can get quality omakase starting at 100ish - overall very generously priced. Very cozy spot, you enter right into the dining area so it's not as romantic as one would want (if that's the feel you're going for). Chef is very engaging and great service all around.
Hidden gem that has perhaps gotten a little too popular. My go to place whenever I want to bring folks out for good sushi in NYC.
This is hands down the best omakase I’ve ever had in my life! Even compared to omakase in Tokyo!!! The owner was the cutest Japanese man ever. The chefs were really funny and sweet. The fish was so fresh. And the dessert mochi was heavenly. I can’t wait to go back!
Anniversary dinner here. Haven't had such melt watering sushi since I was last in Japan. Pricey for sure, but worth it for a special occasion.
Solid presentation and service. Overall a good sushi restaurant and worth a try.
It is a great place for sushi. The price is reasonable.
Amazing omakase. Kura is certainly on a different level than your typical sushi restaurant. The finess and care to craft each piece was sure an art. Will definitely return.
Traditional omakase. Excellent for purists.
If you can afford it, you won't find better sushi outside of Japan.Splurge and get the $125 level not $100. Do the sake flight. You will walk away full and very very happy.Service is excellent. Reservations are a must unless you are walking in after 9:30 and even then it's a good idea.
Delicious and very authentic experience. Chefs are great to chat with. Very good service. Best part is that the omakase is very fresh and customizable based on your preferences / allergies.
